Livestock Coverage Types:
Livestock Insurance - an Opportunity to Beef Up Your Business
Agents looking for growth opportunities may want to consider Livestock Insurance from The Hartford.

Why Livestock Insurance?
From the individual horse owner to the livestock trucker, from the cattle rancher to the commercial feedlot operator, opportunities to write this business abound. And, they may be closer than you think.  For example, any agent whose city or town employs mounted officers or uses police dogs has the potential to sell animal mortality to cover the lives of the equine or canine members of the force.

The Hartford is a leading market for Livestock Insurance. We offer products and services to meet the unique insurance needs of valuable animal owners as well as commercial businesses engaged in breeding, raising, selling, or transporting various species of livestock.

What Products and Services are Available?

The Hartford Livestock Department offers:

  • Equine Animal Mortality Coverage which provides term life insurance and emergency colic surgery expense coverage on horses. Other optional coverage, including major medical coverage, is also available.
  • Animal Mortality Coverage which provides term life insurance on higher valued cattle, police or service dogs, swine, 4H/FFA animals, or more exotic species such as bison, elk, or llamas.
  • Livestock Transit Coverage on a named or broad perils basis that covers loss to livestock or other additionally covered property while in transit.
  • Feedlot, Pasture, and Dairy Coverage for livestock located at operations that breed or feed livestock for food production.
  • Poultry Coverage for chickens or turkeys located at breeding, feeding, egg-laying, or hatchery operations.
  • Swine Confinement Coverage for swine located at locations that breed or feed swine for food production.
  • Ocean Marine Coverage that covers loss to livestock while in international transit.

Why The Hartford?
In one word - Specialists. The Hartford Livestock Department is staffed by underwriting and claims specialists whose only business is Livestock Insurance. Whether you need to cover a show horse, a highly valued service or police dog, or a load of cattle, you can count on our Livestock Team for expertise and creativity.
